Current Show:

Love and Science, BCfm Radio

What do the developments at COP30 mean for the climate fight? And why do birds feature so much in the “12 Days of Christmas”? These are the important questions in the world of science, and some of many we explore on BCfm’s Love and Science.

Having hosted the show myself for a year, I’ve now stepped into the exciting role of Producer, taking the lead on development, evaluation, content curation and team management. Alongside presenting the show, sourcing guests, stories and press work, I run the show in the background and train other presenters, social media administrators, reporters and broadcast assistants to build an engaging, dedicated show focused on sharing the latest science news with the community of Bristol and beyond.

Every Monday, myself or another presenter chats with guest presenters and interviewees to explore some of the latest science news, incredible research and discoveries, and dive into the weird, wonderful and (sometimes) bizarre world of science. From the environment and archaeology to health, space, physics and beyond, there’s something for everyone on Love and Science.

Selected Episodes

COP30 Special – Monday 8th December 2025

In this special episode, I dive into the international climate talks, COP30, held in Brazil in November 2025. Joining me is Dr Karen Tucker, a Senior Lecturer in Politics at the University of Bristol, who attended the talks. Dive into the key outcomes from COP30 and explore how global climate discussions are improving at taking into account the voices and rights of indigenous peoples.

Rave On For The Avon, Rosemary Coogan and Life On Mars – Monday 15th September 2025

In this episode, I go in conversation with Aggie Nyagari, one of the wonderful co-producers of Rave On For The Avon – the feature-length documentary film that has captured the hearts of Bristol’s community and touched lives across the UK, in their efforts to call for action on river pollution across the country. We also have a chat with Rosemary Coogan, a UK/ESA Astronaut about her time training for the International Space Station before exploring some new evidence of possible ancient microbial life on the Red Planet.

Bristol Zoo Project Conservation and Fossilized Fish Vomit – Monday 3rd February 2025

Hear an exclusive interview with Dr Ricardo Lemos de Figueiredo from the Bristol Zoo Project as we discuss the incredible conservation work they’re undertaking in the Philippines off the back of the birth of a Philippine Spotted Deer fawn at the BZP in Bristol. Also hear how fossilised fish vomit discovered in Denmark could be improving our understanding of ancient fish predators, and tune in to find out how a humpback whale was rescued from entanglement in fishing nets in Scotland.

Eclipses On-Demand, Brain Microbiomes and Tumour-Detecting Lizard Spit – Monday 9th December 2024

Join myself and my guests in this episode to explore how lizard spit could be harnessed to locate and detect pancreatic cancer, how the brain microbiome could indicate dementia and to hear about the launch of two satellites that will allow scientists to create eclipses on-demand! Plus hear a clip from the PaddlePod!

Lizzie Daly, Mayan Cities and Mummified Sabretooths – Monday 16th November 2024

This episode explored two recent science news stories – an ancient Mayan city that was accidentally discovered, and the first sabretooth tiger “mummy” – while also featuring an interview with wildlife filmmaker, Lizzie Daly.

Wildscreen Festival Special – Monday 28th October 2024

Join me in this special episode of Love and Science as I explore the goings-on at the Wildscreen Festival. Featuring a live interview with two volunteers from the 2024 Festival alongside several chats with wildlife filmmakers, Wildscreen staff and others about the latest (and greatest) wildlife documentaries.

The PaddlePod

The only science podcast hosted from paddleboards! Exploring the key issues in marine and freshwater science, from the perspectives of the individuals taking action to tackle them.

Join co-hosts George Edwards and Casey Spry as they travel the UK’s South West, from its rivers and canals to lakes and seas, chatting to conservationists, researchers and filmmakers about all things wonderfully watery.

From the impacts of climate change on sea turtles and coral reefs to organisations taking action to provide clean water to communities around the globe, or dedicate our rivers as safe, healthy and clean bathing sites, explore two seasons of conversations straight from the water itself.

Though the PaddlePod is currently taking a break, I am the Co-Producer and Co-Host of the show, alongside Casey Spry. The podcast explores aquatic and marine science through engaging storytelling, interviews and conversation.

The issue my co-host and I had to overcome, however, was making our podcast different. And what better way to do that than by podcasting from the rivers, seas and lakes about which we’re chatting. We decided to try out podcasting whilst paddleboarding – and somehow we’ve made it work!

So, why not give the only science podcast hosted from paddleboards a listen?

Other Podcast Work

As well as co-producing The PaddlePod and Producing Love & Science for BCfm Radio, I have undertaken work on other podcasts, from producing and creating to editing and post-production, or even just featuring as a guest. Find the episodes below.

Science Chatters (UWE Bristol)

I had the joy of featuring on the UWE Science Communication Unit’s Science Chatters podcast, hosted by Andrew Glester. On the Episode, “Love and Science and Vertipools”, I discussed my work as host of the show, and how I got to where I am.

Beyond Panic (In The Works)

During my time studying on the MSc Science Communication at UWE Bristol, I undertook a thesis exploring the impact an eco-action podcast could have on tackling eco-anxiety in young people. The work is currently under peer-review for publication in an academic journal, having found podcasts capable of alleviating climate-related anxieties.

Keep an ear out for Beyond Panic coming soon – a podcast aimed at empowering you to alleviate your eco-anxiety, being created off the back of this research.
