Alongside my work on audio content production, scripting, presenting and editing, I also have a background in film. From the creation of short promotional and social media videos to a wildlife documentary, I have developed strong skills in scripting, researching and planning film and video projects and the production and editing processes. Slowing The Flow: Can Beavers Reduce River Pollution?
My first foray into creating a documentary came from the combination of two seemingly simple questions: what will the reintroduction of beavers do for UK rivers, and how can the UK tackle the growing river pollution crisis?
What unfolded from these initial ideas was a 7-minute wildlife documentary film created as part of an assessment for my Master’s. Myself and three other science communicators took the questions I had identified above and turned them into an engaging, uplifting story of hope and conservation.
With such a small team, each of us played a key role in the production of the film, with all having input into its production, filming and editing process. After a long period of research and contacting interviewees, I wrote up an initial script, which as a team we worked into the final version seen in the film. From storyboarding and location hunting, through to filming and directing, over the course of three months we created and gathered all major parts of the film, ready for the post-production process.
The editing process was shared between the group, each taking a section of the film to edit based on input from all members – the starting sequences and interview with Chris Jones were my area, from which we wove together a flowing story exploring the issue present in UK rivers and how beavers could appear to be the superhero the country needs to reduce river pollution.

Sustainability and Environmental Education
Alongside freelance work, I am the Programmes and Communications Coordinator at Sustainability and Environmental Education (SEEd) – an environmental education charity leading the way in transformative learning for sustainability.
Our work focuses on supporting and empowering individuals to make lasting, effective change through facilitation, action learning, futures thinking and other methodologies. Through our programmes, including our Young Changemakers programme for young people, we develop competences and key life skills in people across the UK and the world, empowering them to become active agents of change for a more sustainable future.
The below sample video was written, scripted, directed and edited by myself, to promote our Young Changemakers programme with funders and with schools, educators and parents:
My role as Programmes and Communications Coordinator leaves me with two main workflows: the running and development support of our key programmes, and the strategic running of our communication outputs. Through the communication avenue, I have written and edited blog posts, crafted continuing email and social media campaigns centred around our work, sustainability and climate, and fundraising. Alongside written work, this includes the creation of videos to promote SEEd’s work, share stories and more.
Most video-based work of mine with SEEd can be found on their website – look out for short videos featuring individuals SEEd has worked with and impacted over the years, or longer videos from major players in the sustainability education field such as Professor Stephen Sterling or Sir Jonathon Porritt.
Social Media
More of my video-based work can be found across the social media channels for several of my freelance roles, from content creation for The PaddlePod and Love & Science to my own series Active and Optimistic on my Instagram and TikTok accounts. Find a selection of reels below:
